Estimate VO2Max: 12-Minute Run

Purpose: Estimate the body’s ability to deliver oxygen to determine cardiovascular fitness level.

Equipment: Standard 400 meter track and stopwatch

Procedure: The instructor should be ready to call out each subject’s time and position. 

  • All participants line up at the starting line of the track. 
  • On the instructors auditory signal, the subjects walk, jog, or run as far as possible in 12 minutes.
  • At the end of 12 minutes all the participants stop immediately.
  • The distance run by each subject is recorded in miles.
